Dispatcher fee calculator

Enter a normal week of loads. See the fee as a percentage, a flat weekly fee or a flat fee per load, and what you keep after each.

Percent fee

DISPATCHER FEE

FEE THIS WEEK AT THE PERCENT RATE

$240

Gross this week
$4,800
Percent of gross (5%): fee
$240 (5.0%)
Percent of gross (5%): you keep
$4,560 ($2.53/mi)

Same week, different pricing. A flat weekly fee is owed in a slow week too; a percent fee falls with your gross. Compare what each fee includes, not only the number.

At our 5% rate you would pay $240 on this week and keep $4,560. No setup fee, nothing on weeks you do not haul.

How the dispatcher fee calculator compares quotes

  • Gross for the week = gross per load x loads per week.
  • Percent fee = weekly gross x the percentage.
  • Flat weekly fee = the amount quoted, owed whatever you haul.
  • Flat per-load fee = the amount quoted x loads per week.
  • You keep = gross - fee. Net per mile = what you keep / loaded miles.

EXAMPLE WEEK

EX-DF-2
4 loads at $1,200, 450 loaded miles each$4,800 gross
At 5% of gross$240 fee
Flat $300 a week$300 fee
Flat $75 a load$300 fee
You keep at 5%$4560

Run a slow week too

Most fee comparisons use a good week. Run your slowest normal week as well. Halve the loads: a percentage fee halves with them, a per-load fee halves, and a flat weekly fee stays the same, taking a bigger share of a smaller gross. In a week the truck is in the shop, a flat weekly fee may still be due; with ours, there is nothing to pay.

Beyond the fee

The fee matters less than the rate on each load. A dispatcher who negotiates every load can earn back more than a fee difference; one who books the first posted rate costs you more than any fee. Work out the trade with the dispatch ROI calculator and keep an eye on fuel with the trip fuel cost calculator. Our guides on box truck shipping rates and what authority costs fill in the rest, and every detail of our pricing is on the dispatch fees page.

Questions about this calculator

Q-01How do I calculate a dispatcher's fee?

A percentage fee is the gross of the loads times the percentage. A flat weekly fee is the same amount every week, and a flat per-load fee is that amount times the number of loads. The calculator does all three on the same week, so you can compare quotes that are priced differently.

Q-02Is a percent fee or a flat fee cheaper?

It depends on your week. Flat weekly pricing is cheaper in a big week and dearer in a slow one, because it is owed either way. Per-load pricing hurts on short, low-paying loads, while a percentage moves with your gross. Run your normal week and a slow week to see the difference.

Q-03What does your dispatch fee cost?

A percentage of gross on loads you haul: 7% for a new MC or a single box truck or hotshot, 5% for one truck of any other kind with 6+ months of authority, and 4% for 2 or more trucks (limited-time rate). No setup fee, no minimum, month-to-month, cancel with 30 days notice.

Q-04What should a dispatcher fee include?

At least finding loads, negotiating every rate, handling broker calls and check calls, setting up carrier packets and a report you can check the fee against. Some low fees leave the calls or the paperwork with you. Compare what is included, not only the number.
